The 35th CIRP DESIGN 2023 Conference will be  organized in Patras, at the Conference and Cultural Center of the  University of Patras (02-04 April 2025).

• Manufacturing systems are undergoing a rapid and deep transformation as a result of rapidly changing economic, social, and environmental factors
• Adopting novel value chain structures, new organizational and production paradigms, as well as innovative digital and automation technologies, is critical to leading such a transformation
• The current market scheme is driven by the need for improved quality, increased product quantities and lower delivery times. Moreover, customers seek for highly personalized products.
• Customers should be actively involved in the product design phase
• Automation and smart systems revolutionize the factory shop-floor, and horizontal and vertical integration via digital means are key features for sustainability

The UK will host the 16th International Conference on Axiomatic Design at the Welsh School of Architecture in Cardiff on 25 to 27 June 2025.

Background

Since 2000, the ICAD series has been the traditional meeting point for the worldwide Axiomatic Design Community, including the Axiomatic Design Research Foundation (ADRF) and the International Association for Axiomatic Design (IAAD). Since its first edition, ICAD conferences have been held in Cambridge and Worcester (MA-USA), Seoul and Daejeon (Korea), Lisbon (Portugal), Florence (Italy), Xi’an (China), Iasi (Romania), Reykjavik (Iceland), Sydney (Australia), Lisbon (Portugal), and Eindhoven (the Netherlands).

Axiomatic Design (AD) is a powerful design methodology developed by Professor Nam P. Suh that can be applied to the design of products, processes, and systems. AD is a Systems Design Method to systematically analyse and translate stakeholders needs into functional requirements, design parameters and process variables and support decision making while recording process information. Its structure provides a robust basis to support design innovation towards achieving the objectives set in the United Nations Agenda for sustainable development 2015-2030.

Design as a Team Sport will be the general theme for ICED25. Design is recognized as fundamentally collaborative, requiring collaborations between engineers and stakeholders, between different disciplines, between different cultures, between different skills, and between human and artificial agents. Our goal is to bring together the practitioners of design to share their experiences and best practices, especially including collaboration and teamwork. We are excited to learn about the research that is being done in supporting this collaboration, be that inquiry based research, problem based research, or invention based research. The conference itself is essentially a team: it is a group of people with a defined objective to learn and share knowledge for a defined period of time. The prestigious World Design Congress is coming to London for the first time in over 50 years. The 34th edition will be hosted by the Design Council at the Barbican Centre, recognised worldwide for its iconic brutalist architecture and commitment to sustainable design.

The World Design Organization’s two-day event takes place every two years, gathering together the international design community and thought leaders from business, research and education to discuss and debate design issues of global importance. Previous host cities have included Tokyo, Hyderabad, Torino and Montreal.

London was selected against stiff competition as home to some of the world’s best designs and designers. The main event will run in the capital, in conjunction with the London Design Festival, supported by regional moments to showcase the UK’s design sector to the global community.
